    Description

Up for bids is a plate from Gulf Coast Lines / New Orleans, Texas & Mexico #70 - one of their two high-stepping 4-6-0 that sped the fastest varnish on the line between Houston and New Orleans in the 1920's through the war - the pride of the Gulf Coast Lines.  The Gulf Coast Lines were taken over by the MP in 1925, at which point this locomotive became MP (NOT&P) #385, but the service remained essentially the same. A nice photo of this locomotive hustling the Orleanean along at 70 mph can be seen at the top of page 126 in MOPAC Power.
More recently, this plate did a stint in Hollywood, where it appeared in the TV episode "Young Sheldon Volunteers at a Train Museum".  The screen grab shows this exact same plate bathing in the stage lights during its "15 seconds of fame".
As seen in the photos, the corner broke off and was repaired, apparently many years ago.  The last photo shows this plate (or maybe its twin) actually on the locomotive - not much to look at, but it was probably somebody wrenching on those pipes that broke the plate.
