Our packaging and mailers are made of 100% recycled paper (unless we need to use the USPS Priority or Express mailers which are just "made from" post-consumer waste). Our own 100% recycled kraft mailers are reusable, recyclable, biodegradable, and even compostable, plus we use vegetable based ink! We do use a film for certain items like soap that LOOKS like plastic, but it is made completely from the cellulose of plants and is biodegradable. The USPS shipping and tracking label is the only thing we don't have control over (sorry!) We ship within one business day of payment. PRODUCE BAGS: Many people have their own canvas grocery bags, but buying fresh fruit and veggies can still cause plastic waste because no one wants their produce rolling around with cans and jars within the larger bags. These help keep the fruit safe from damage and make it a lot easier to check out, as they are see-through and have such a simple open and close drawstring. Made of a soft but strong linen cotton blend, the bags are breathable, washable, and 100% biodegradable. The is no label or metal clasp that would cause these no to be considered Zero Waste. The bags sizes are:SMALL:  9.5" x 7" (holds smaller items, like lemons, apricots, carrots, 3-4 peaches, 2-3 apples or bananas)MEDIUM: 9.5" x 11.5" ( good for items like squash, 5-6 pears or avocados, a bunch of bananas, a smaller cantaloupe at max)LARGE: 9.5 x 17.5" (great for larger zucchini, a big bunch of broccoli, celery, cantaloupe)The 9.5-inch side of each bag is the opening and the bottom, so it's the height of the bags that changes in size. They are extremely convenient with the drawstring closures, and you get to help save the environment by not using plastic or paper cut from trees! There is no metal clasp as we designed these to be 100% zero-waste. We pre-wash these and have added the faintest scent of lemongrass. The scent is extremely mild (barely noticable), but they smell freshly laundered! These are super lightweight and travel easy. Take these with you to the store or market or use them for packing food for picnics, work, camping. They have a wonderful, natural fiber, minimalist look. The set makes a great gift for men, women, teens, and kids who are trying to live a responsible, environmentally-friendly life!
STRAWS: Measuring 8.5" and made of stainless steel, this lightweight set of three drinking straws and a cleaning brush can be taken with you in your bag or purse, and is meant to be used as an option when the only other straws available are plastic. They can also be used around the house, and include an extra wide straw for smoothies, bubble tea, etc. They are completely non-toxic with smooth edges where you put your lips. After use, you just clean with the brush, and this allows you to save thousands of plastic straws from ending up in landfills and oceans. The plain silver color complements a minimalist look.
BEESWAX WRAPS: They are made out of cotton fabric, beeswax, jojoba oil and tree resin. The extra ingredients help with softness and pliability. They are completely non-toxic, chemical-free and washable. You can help save the environment by using this to replace plastic wrap. They have a nice, natural, minimalist look and the otter s are simple but fun. You will receive the sizes and patterns shown in the photos. The extra large flower print measures around 14” x 13” and can be used to wrap larger bowls or folded around bread or other larger food items. It can also be cut into smaller pieces if desired. The medium/large geometric green triangle pattern measures about 11” x 10” and the smaller polar bears piece measures about 8”x 7”. What you need to know about beeswax wrappers: they do not work exactly like plastic cling wrap! It takes a little extra time to warm the wax up with the heat from your fingers and palms to make the cloth pieces moldable. When covering bowls, you lay it on top and press it around in place using warm fingers to make it stick. A piece of hemp twine will keep it in place. When folding around food for traveling, also use the hemp twine to keep it together. Kids will think they are getting little presents in their lunch boxes!
TWINE AND NAPKIN: You will receive a five foot piece of hemp twine and a bamboo paper towel. Hemp plants and bamboo are natural fibers and that are 100% biodegradable, so you are never adding to the trash problem. They do not need pesticides or herbicides to grow and are completely renewable. They are environmentally responsible and completely safe to use! The twine can be used for holding the beeswax wraps in place, and the bamboo paper towel as a napkin while eating or for cleaning up spills in the kitchen. Handwash gently with a mild soap and hang to dry. It is not meant to last forever, but one can last a whole week or so, unlike tradition paper towels. It can be added to the the straw or cutlery bags as well for travel.
SOAP AND SPONGES: This set contains two genuine loofah sponges and a handmade bar of dish soap. The larger loofah sponge measure 3" x 5" and is the perfect size for washing dishes and the smaller one is 2-inches in diameter, for washing hands. They expands when you wet them, which is great fun for kids, teens, and even us grownups! The 100% organic soap bar measures about 3" x 1" x .5 inches and weighs 1 oz. We do not use dyes or artificial fragrances that can irritate sensitive skin. It is opaque white in color. And is safe for sensitive skin. It comes wrapped it a NON-PLASTIC film made of plant cellulose to keep it from getting on the other products in the kit. The natural colors complement an organic, minimalist look. Why switch to loofah? Loofah sponges are NOT from the ocean! They are 100% vegan - they come from plant called the Luffa aegyptiaca, which is a gourd just like a pumpkin, melon, squash, or cucumber. The luffas are dried, peeled, de-seeded, pressed flat, and cut into the shape seen in the photos. As a result, every single sponge is going to be different! You will notice that they expand to a slightly curved shape, with one side softer than the other. We use the soft side for regular dishes and the rougher side for pots and pans. If you get an odd looking one, it will work fine! Some of ours end up looking pretty weird when they expand, and we enjoy it! Just put the sponge in some warm water and they grow, becoming soft and spongy, taking on the shape of the original slice of gourd (these are sliced longways, not across). They contain no plastic, no colorants or chemicals, and are biodegradable, even compostable (clean the soap out first, of course!)The soap is also vegan and is handmade so it can also have some slight variations in shape, and possibly some teeny bubbles, etc, as handmade soaps do. You will want to go ahead and start using your dishwashing kit shortly after receiving it, as handmade soaps often began to "sweat" after a while, which can make them *look* unappealing, although they will work just as well. This should NOT happen if you open it and use it within a reasonable time. Dish wash bars are not exactly like commercial liquid dishsoap and take a little getting used to. We have been taught to believe we need specific, heavily dyed, super bubbly/foamy liquids to clean dishes with, and this simply isn't true. Dampen the sponge with warm water, and rub it with the bar, and then squeeze it a little to create some lather, and then just wash dishes as you normally do. You do not need excess foam and bubbles (even though they are cute) to get dishes clean. The soap and loofah are safe and gentle enough to used on skin as well, so there is nothing wrong with having these in the bathroom, as well. Replace each month.
BAMBOO CUTLERY: This super lightweight cutlery set can be taken with you in your bag or purse, and is meant to be used as an option when the only other utensils available are plastic.
