From an old-time collection of fine US & World  coins, Lincoln Gold & Coin is pleased to offer this 1847 one cent minted for the Kingdom of Hawaii.
Like much of the collection, this coin
has been in bank storage for over four decades. Just removed from its old paper coin envelope and now being offered for the first time. This is a beautifully detailed coin purchased from the late Tom McAfee one of the leading dealers in Royal Hawaiian coinage during the mid to late 20th century.  This is the large bust, Crosslet 4, 15  berries variety displaying underlying mint red luster.
Of the original mintage of 100,000 coins only 11,595 were still held in the Hawaiian treasury  in 1862 - 88,305 were sold as scrap and shipped out of the Hawaiian islands.  Today, few remain in any condition let alone high grade. Of those that do remain nearly all exhibit evidence of corrosion and many have been cleaned and all too often have been recolored. We're happy to offer this popular and extraordinarily well preserved example to our online customers. Don't hesitate to order. Every coin from this Royal Hawaiian collection has been well received by dealers and collectors around the world. As always, our experienced staff is available to answer any questions prior to purchase. This is just one of many fine Royal Hawaiian coins in our inventory.
By way of background, when the Hawaiian coinage law was passed in 1846 authorizing a Hawaiian national coinage, the Hawaiian government contracted with the private mint of H.M. & E.I. Richards in Attleboro, Massachusetts. The initial order was for 100,000 copper coins. On the voyage from the  United States to the Hawaiian Islands nearly all of the coins were affected by the intrusion of salt water in the ship's hull.
We photographed this Royal Hawaiian cent against two backgrounds and under varying lighting conditions. Please note, the photos zoom in quite well allowing you to view this coin under extreme magnification and to assist you with your evaluation.
